Tom Hanks is probably most remembered for portraying Forrest Gump (1994). He plays a simple man with a low IQ working through life. From joining the army to meeting the president several times, this passes by him as all he can think about is his childhood sweetheart Jenny Curran. This is a fantastic role for Hanks for bringing a enjoyable role character to the big screen. As he says ‘life is like a box of chocolates’.
But I have to say my favourite film has to be 80’s classic ‘Big’ (1988). As a young boy Josh wishes at a fairground machine he was big. The next morning he wakes up as a grown adult. With the help of his best friend Billy he moves into the city. He then needs to learn the consequences of grown up by getting a job and having his first romantic encounter. This is a fantastic family comedy with loads of laughter and memorable scenes.
Having so memorable fantastic roles I would have to say a top 5 instead of my usual top 3. My first has got to be animation classic ‘Toy Story’ (1995). At second has to be ‘Philadelphia’ (1993) then at third has to be ‘The Terminal’ (2004). The last 2 has to be 80’s classic ‘Turner & Hooch’ and ‘The Burbs’ (both in 1989).
I would have to say Tom Hanks is a fantastic actor who chooses his roles really well. In the next couple of years we have a couple of fantastic roles to look forward too. This includes the portrayal of Walt Disney in the upcoming ‘Saving Mr Banks’ and the recently announced of returning of Robert Langdon in the much anticipated Dan Browns ‘The Lost Symbol’ (sequel to The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons).
